Yesterday I attended a hustings / Q&A at Scarborough 6th Form college. I won’t deny that I was a tad nervous / excited. Also in attendance were SBC Tory Cllr Heather Phillips, Charlotte from the Greens and Graham from the Lib Dems.
I started by explaining that it is my opinion that if you work 40 hours per week, you shouldn’t need an extra job just to make ends meet.
It’s my opinion that nurses shouldn’t need to go to food banks.
How can we have trust in our politicians when they break their own rules and party their way through lock down?
How is it right that Energy Companies can make billions whilst many are struggling to choose whether to heat or to eat?
I spoke of the idea of a wealth tax.
I explained how local authorities have been starved of cash – and how that affects us all.
I have my concerns as to how our NHS is becoming increasing privatised and that I don’t believe that everything has to be done in the pursuit of profit.
The students raised some fantastic questions and it was a wonderful experience to be able to offer them my answers.
And then there was a ballot.
Happily the students of Scarborough 6th Form voted for me and for Labour.
Thank you for the opportunity x
