First, the time of the York event has been brought forward – latest announcement from Rachael Maskell M.P. is a 10.30 am start. Here’s Rachael’s message this morning: “Clear your diary, cancel your plans, ‘The York People’s Parliament’ wants to hear your voice at the dispatch box – Join me in St Helen’s Square at 10.30am on Saturday 31 August and send a clear message to the Prime Minister that we will not allow this constitutional crisis to continue.”
There is a rally in Newcastle **TIME NOW CHANGED TO 11 am**, and others round the country. See here but some of the times given may have changed – please double-check setting out.
Here’s more detail of the Defend Democracy event in Leeds:
“Everyone who opposes Boris Johnson’s attempt to shut down parliament in September and October should rally at the Town Hall in Leeds at 11am this Saturday.
We will defend democracy and fight Johnson’s constitutional coup plan to prorogue parliament to achieve a No Deal Brexit.
We invite everyone who oppose a No Deal Brexit to join Labour and trade union members, and all other opposition parties, to come and protest with us this Saturday against Johnson’s parliamentary shut-down and against his No Deal Brexit plan.
On Saturday Alex Sobel MP, Richard Burgon MP, Fabian Hamilton MP, Naz Shah MP, Mary Creagh MP will all be speaking and others TBC.
