The Labour Party is encouraging members and friends to actively support our local communities.
(And whatever you choose to do – please keep yourself and others as safe as possible.)
The most practical (and safest) contribution we can make is to help out in our own neighbourhood.
• There are local support pages on Facebook: Coronavirus Isolation Support in Scarborough UK (and surrounding areas) is for people needing and offering help. Also Scarborough Covid-19 mutual aid and How Can I Help, Scarborough UK .
Stronger Together WHITBY DISTRICT during COVID-19 offers general support, with information about local services and businesses. Maybe set up a group for your own local area or village? Many villages now have their own Facebook groups to help identify local sources of food and assistance – so encouraging people to stay put as much as possible. See for instance Stronger Together Castleton
• Foodbanks face high demand and are very short of supplies. Many of their regular volunteers are in the ‘high risk’ category. Local foodbanks are appealing for food and cash donations, and help with transport and delivery. Please think of helping (in Scarborough) the Rainbow Centre, Age UK, and the Salvation Army. For the Whitby foodbank, see http://www.foodbank4whitby.org.uk/ .
• Please do let us know of initiatives and ideas which we can help to publicise or develop. We are not trying to take any political advantage from the crisis, but do have a platform which gives opportunities to help others.
