First elected to represent Ramshill in 2013, I was returned as councillor for the new ward of Weaponness and Ramshill in May 2019. I was then elected Leader of Scarborough Borough Council.

I serve on several outside bodies: the British Ports Association; Local Government Association general assembly; Local Government North Yorkshire & York Transport and Planning Board; North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership Joint Committee; the Staff Joint Consultative Committee; and the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership.
